Graham has over 20 years experience in the Hospitality & Gaming Industry including financial and commercial management, operational management and strategic leadership roles.
Graham began his career in the Hospitality industry in 1996 when he was hired by Sun International as a Project Accountant at the Sun City Resort. He successfully worked his way up within Sun International over the next 12 years in roles ranging from Financial Manager of Operations to Chief Financial Officer, to Director of Operations at Sun City Resort in 2003. In June 2007, he became the Divisional Director Resorts of Sun International Limited. This position entailed strategic and operational leadership responsibilities for the South African & African hotels, including sales and marketing.
Graham was appointed Managing Director of Tsogo Sun Hotels on 1 September 2008, a position he held until 31 August 2013. In this role, Graham had strategic leadership of the Tsogo Sun Hotel Group, which consists of 95 hotels in South Africa, Africa & the Middle East, comprising ultra luxury, deluxe, full service, economy and budget hotel brands.
He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has completed an EMDP at the UCT Graduate School of Business and a Gaming EMDP at the University of Nevada in the USA.
Roy has been a management consultant since 2000 following careers in academia and advertising. He has focused on M&A engagements since 2009 with projects ranging from due diligence to deal making, post-merger integration and exit strategy / implementation.
Between 2000 and 2009, he successfully delivered projects in Strategy, Operations, Balanced Scorecard, Business Transformation, Interim Management, MBO and Programme Management.
Roy's clients come from a variety of industries and have included Engineering, Financial Services, FMCG / Pharma, Hospitality, IT, Mining, Oil and Gas, Property, Retail, Telco and Utilities. Engagements have taken him to Southern and East Africa, Australia, the UAE and USA and he has travelled on business throughout Europe. Clients have ranged from family-owned companies to some of Southern Africa’s largest firms.
With his cross functional / cross industry experience and ability to think very laterally, Roy is excellent at spotting opportunities for improvement whilst having a pragmatic appreciation of the obstacles to a business achieving its potential.
He holds a B.Comm (Hons) in Marketing (University of Natal) and a MBA (UCT).
